From office to vibrant city – rpc relocates and rethinks the workplace
rpc – The Retail Performance Company has officially moved into its new office in the heart of Munich. But the move represents more than just a change of location: rpc is using the opportunity to redefine what an office can be – as an open, adaptable space that enables both hybrid collaboration and focused work, meeting the evolving demands of the modern working world.
"In designing our office, we were inspired by the interdisciplinary and diverse way we work together at rpc. This gave rise to the concept of an office as a city – diverse, vibrant, and connected," says Vladimir Moldovanu, Creative Director at rpc – The Retail Performance Company.
Working like in a city – the “Cityscape” concept
The new office design follows the "Cityscape" idea – a creative guiding principle developed from rpc’s identity as a diverse, interdisciplinary team. The office was envisioned like a city: with “Avenues” as hallways, a central “Plaza” as a meeting hub, and the “Bar Centrale” as the social heart. Different work areas are designed as “Neighborhoods,” while management sits in the so-called “Business District.”
The concept also visually embraces urban elements: areas near the “city center” are inspired by nightlife – with bold colors like Electric Blue and Pink – while quieter areas feature soft, warm tones. The result is a space that encourages movement, encounters, and retreat in equal measure – like a walk through the city.
Implementation: with the team, for the team
The development of the new office was a collaborative process: rpc actively involved employees through surveys and workshops to identify their needs. This led to a spatial concept that supports a variety of working styles.
Key “New Work” elements include:
- Shared desks and desk booking systems
- Hybrid-compatible meeting rooms
- Open creation spaces ("Playgrounds")
- Think Tanks
- Central gathering spots like the “Plaza” and “Bar Centrale”
Technologically, the office features digital room signage, streaming technology, and strong Wi-Fi – all designed to ensure seamless and efficient hybrid work.
Following the end of the lease at the previous location, rpc took the opportunity to design a more efficient office space, optimize costs, and simultaneously create an attractive, future-ready workplace. Special emphasis was placed on sustainability: existing furniture was largely reused, new materials are certified and environmentally friendly. The modular structure of the concept also allows for future adaptation – a workspace that grows and evolves with its team.
Looking ahead: a space for ideas and collaboration
With its new location, rpc is creating more than just an office: a third living space – alongside home and digital life. Designed to be a “Great Place to Work,” the office invites people to connect, share, and create together – in line with a modern understanding of work. The space isn’t a mandate for physical presence but an invitation to collaborate. The concept supports both focused individual work and collaborative creative processes.
The move to Theresienhöhe is also a symbol of rpc’s self-image as a modern employer and transformation partner: a company that doesn’t just shape change but lives it.
For the design and implementation, rpc collaborated with strong partners including the architectural firm CSMM and Studio by Cristian.
